Not only are Dr. Martin and Debbie Martin highly qualified veterinary professionals, they are also extremely experienced trainers and handlers. They have trained and handled their dogs in AKC Conformation, Obedience, Rally, Agility, Search and Rescue, Dog Therapy, and Ringsports.
Dr. Kenneth Martin is one of only 72 veterinarians in the world to obtain the status of a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists. He is not just a veterinary behaviorist, he is also an avid dog trainer. He began training dogs for AKC obedience and conformation when he was just eight years old. Dr. Martin also assisted with the training of search and rescue dogs in the New Orleans area.
Debbie Martin is among only 14 veterinary technicians to have achieved the status of a Veterinary Technician Specialist in Behavior. She is also an avid trainer and teacher. Debbie worked as faculty for the Karen Pryor Academy Dog Trainer Professional program from 2010-2016, and has taught multiple workshops in Texas and worldwide. She has also competed with her dogs in a variety of dog sports such as AKC Rally and Agility.
Kenneth M. Martin, DVM, Diplomate American College of Veterinary Behaviorists
Dr. Martin is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists and a licensed practicing veterinarian in the great state of Texas. He completed a clinical behavioral medicine residency at Purdue University's Animal Behavior Clinic under the mentorship of Dr. Andrew Luescher PhD, DVM, DACVB in 2004 and graduated from Louisiana State University - School of Veterinary Medicine in 1999. He was invited to join Phi Zeta, the honor society of veterinary medicine, while at Purdue University.
Dr. Martin’s professional interests include behavioral development, cognition/learning, psychopharmacology, conflict related (owner directed) aggression, and alternative medicine. He is a frequent lecturer on animal behavior disorders and teaches a small animal behavior course for veterinary students at Louisiana State University. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior.
He is a published author in the Journal of Veterinary Behavior: Clinical Applications and Research and has contributions to the texts Manual of Parrot Behavior, Veterinary Clinics of North America: Small Animal Practice –Behavior, and Canine and Feline Behavior for Veterinary Technicians and Nurses. Debbie is a Licensed Veterinary Technician, Veterinary Technician Specialist (Behavior), Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner, Karen Pryor Academy Faculty Emeritus, and Certified Professional Dog Trainer-Knowledge Assessed. With an interest in child development, Debbie obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in human ecology from Ohio State University. Debbie then went on to obtain an Associate of Applied Science degree in Veterinary Technology. She has been a full-time registered/licensed veterinary technician since 1996 and has been the Animal Behavior Technician for Veterinary Behavior Consultations since 2005. She is a member of The Society of Veterinary Behavior Technicians. Debbie is a Fear Free Certified Professional.
Debbie is a also a frequent lecturer at veterinary conferences and speaks internationally in the dog training world, including ClickerExpo. Debbie is a published author and her writing has been featured in the Veterinary Technician, Today's Veterinary Technician, and American Veterinarian journals. She is co-editor and a contributing author to the text Canine and Feline Behavior for Veterinary Technicians and Nurses and Veterinary Clinics of North America: Small Animal Practice –Behavior. Gayle DiMenna, LVT, CPDT-KA, KPA CTP
Gayle is a Licensed Veterinary Technician currently working towards a specialty in behavior. After graduating with a business degree from the University of Connecticut, she went back to school to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in Veterinary Technology from Quinnipiac University. She has been working as a credentialed veterinary technician since 1999. As her focus shifted towards behavior, she completed the requirements to become a Certified Professional Dog Trainer – Knowledge Assessed, Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner, Family Paws Parent Educator, Low Stress Handling Certified Silver, and Fear Free Certified Professional. Gayle has also completed the Karen Pryor Academy Puppy Start Right for Instructors Course. She works part time as a pet trainer, vet assistant instructor and continues to share and apply her behavior knowledge at local vet hospitals and shelters.
